Exploring new ways to authenticate yourself in the digital world.
Project Overview
I led the complete UX/UI redesign for iProov's flagship face authentication solution, a key product used for secure remote user authentication during online onboarding and verification.

Product Modernisation & Systems Thinking
The legacy interface had remained unchanged for over six years, resulting in accumulated design debt and consistent friction for both clients and end-users. Addressing the recurring feedback regarding visual clutter required more than a surface-level redesign; it demanded a fundamental re-evaluation of the platform’s architecture. I navigated significant technical constraints—including low-bandwidth environments and legacy device compatibility—to deliver a streamlined, high-performance experience that balanced modern aesthetics with rigorous functional requirements.
Market Strategy & Conceptualisation
I initiated the project with a comprehensive competitive audit and a survey of 100+ participants to map the face authentication landscape. By synthesizing client feedback with market trends, I facilitated stakeholder workshops on a collaborative digital canvas to bridge the gap between user pain points and business goals. To secure C-suite buy-in, I developed a strategic positioning quadrant that visualized our proposed UX trajectory against industry competitors.

Prototyping & Validation
To translate these high-level concepts into tangible experiences, I built high-fidelity interactive prototypes and simulated environments using Spark AR Studio. These assets allowed internal teams to stress-test the interaction models in real-time, ensuring the final design direction was both technically feasible and highly intuitive before moving into full-scale development.

The Solution
The final solution is a minimalist, purpose-driven interface engineered to center the user’s focus where the liveness detection algorithms perform at peak efficiency. A pivotal strategic move was the removal of legacy horizontal scan lines and reticles; while these were deeply associated with the iProov brand identity, I successfully advocated for a cleaner aesthetic that has since outperformed the original in client satisfaction and task success rates. Some key design enhancements include:
Intuitive UI Geometry: Transitioned from rigid geometric shapes to a familiar human-centric oval. This subtle shift provides a clear visual affordance that guides users into the correct orientation without the need for intrusive instructional text.
Visual Clarity: Eliminated legacy filters in favor of a natural, authentic aesthetic, improving user trust and perceived system transparency.
Optimized Information Architecture: Repositioned instructional prompts to the top of the viewport to maintain an unobstructed view and encourage natural eye contact with the sensor.
Functional Motion Design: Integrated subtle animations, such as a green success pulse and multi-colored waves, to provide immediate, non-intrusive feedback during the verification flow.
Accesibility
To ensure the highest standards of inclusivity, I paired a opacity-driven visual hierarchy with a high-contrast palette. This approach was validated through a collaborative audit with a third-party accessibility consultancy, confirming that the solution successfully met all WCAG 2.1 Level AA benchmarks.
The Impact
The solution received high praise from key institutional partners, including Unico and Bradesco Bank in Brazil. Initial usability testing with a cohort of 500+ participants validated the design's efficiency, yielding a 15% reduction in task completion time for the face authentication flow.
